Alfred Tennyson, First Lord of Tennyson, was born in 1809 and died in 1892, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) and Poet Laureate for the majority of Queen Victoriaís reign, lasting 42 years between 1850 and 1892.  Queen Victoria who was an admirer of Alfred Tennysonís work created him a Baron Tennyson in 1884 of Aldworth in the County of Sussex and Freshwater in the Isle of Wight.
